this was on my dash this morning. every part of it is so incredibly disgusting i dont even know where to begin. (i do love however that the image from the post above it is two girls in bed).

the post that preceded this one was the [same] anon saying that she [the girl who posted this] should grow her hair out and wear "girl clothes" so that men will be attracted to her and she would not need to be gay.

growing up in school, every january was spent studying martin luther king jr and rosa parks and february followed with an exploration of all black heros. i did reports on rosa parks, george washington carver, etc. but i always felt so disconnected to the ideas and realities we learned. as i sat in classrooms racially diverse it seemed impossible to me that there could have been a time of segregation and such blatant inequality. as i got older i was introduced to other struggles for equality like the womens right movement. still feeling largely disconnected to these ideas, i always thought of such things as so far in the past. in high school, we did a rather in depth study of classism, racism, and sexism. thought it was still hard for me to connect my eyes were opened to the existence all all three in the present day. through this i began to see the existence of such inequality in my own life and recognized and understand my fear for merely walking down the street or even from a store to my car in the parking lot, alone, especially at night. this is not a thing of the past, it is a part of the present. when i see comments like this i am saddened as it reminds me that such thoughts and inequalities are still alive and well and that even after such struggles, still there is much room to continue to grow.

women, like men, are human beings. yes the anatomical structure of women is different than men which often lean toward different strengths, abilities, and functions of life. however, women were not created to please men, they were created in a sense for companionship and partnership. in the stories of creations i do not recall a sense of hierarchy or subjectivity. i know that sexism and misogyny are sadly still alive and well. there is not much i can do on that front, but continue to educate those i make contact with and hope that in my circle of influence i can make a difference.

however, no matter how misogynistic someone is, that rape comment is not okay. rape is a very real and painful reality that many have to face. there is no excuse for rape whatsoever. a womans body is not a mans public playground. men (i say men because the comment is referring to men, but people) are not entitled to sex; in the declaration of independence it does not say "life, liberty, and the pursuit of sex", it says "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness". in raping someone, the rapist is taking away all three of those fundamental rights. rape is not and will never be a solution to any problem and it sickens me that someone could skew and dilute such painful scars to an act of discipline.

i sincerely hope that whoever this anon is it is a misogynistic guy and not a girl who has such deep internalized inferiority that she thinks this way. not that that would make the comment any better or even close to acceptable, but it would sadden me to know that a woman feels such dysphoria and inferiority in herself to believe that she is an object for male pleasure and a baby machine.
