today we celebrate the life of dr. martin luther king jr. he was a man who fought hate with peace. part of the civil rights movement, dr. martin luther king jr. stood up and spoke out against the law, fighting for equality for himself and other african americans. while black people and white people can learn in the same classroom, use the same restroom, and sit together on a bus there is still much privilege; the privilege is not only among white people, but among all those in the the majority groups. in the 60s americans fought for black people and white people to be able to unite in wedlock, today we fight for man and man or woman and woman to unite in wedlock. though the parties are different, the fights are the same. we have come a long way, but we still have much a journey to travel.
this morning i was watching latter days and one of the characters was performing a song that fits perfectly with this.
