in every class there is always one, or two or three, kids who just dont get it, who need the one on one help or extra explanation after class. so often these kids are written off, labeled as least likely to succeed and just are just kind of pushed along, passed each year and pushed into the next, never fully developing that foundation of material. without fully understanding a how is this student supposed to come to understand b?
so what is the solution? these students are pulled from class and taken to speech, resource, or some other form of tutoring or support. so in order to do better in class, these students are pulled out of class…in the resource classes these students practice the basics, necessary and essential, but then miss out on the lesson at hand. while a particular child is out of class practicing phoenix he/she is missing out on the math lesson so upon returning not only does this child need to continue to work on phoenix but now must catch up on math.
though i dont know what a better solution might be, it seems a bit backwards to me that students who are already behind or challenged in some way are pulled from class and given additional supplemental work making their school career more challenging and demanding than that of a student who is at his/her typical level. how are these students ever to catch up is they are constantly being pulled back?
