recreate the world

interestingly enough i have found a lot of great art recently, without even intentionally looking. i have been blown away and inspired.


the other day i was exchanging presents with friends. this group of friends is my best friend and his sister and their group of friends, as he commented at dinner the other night it has now been a year that i have consecutively been a part of the group for outings/gatherings and such and really am a part of the group now. anyways, we were exchanging gifts and i felt my gifts were a little light and wanted something else. thinking of doing a small origami something to add to it, i was looking online for instructions and somehow came across a papercraft castle done by an art student in toyko over a course of four years.



the entire thing is made out of paper, cant quite figure out how because none of the images i have found allow me to zoom close enough to see any detail of the paper. within the sculpture are working lights (as seen) and a working train.


surfing the internet last night, i found a project called "a love letter for you". this is a project produced by stephen powers. in his youth, stephen powers had a broken family. with his dad out of his picture, his mom was left with little time to focus on him allowing him the opportunity to develop the street life he had. he got into graffiti and after sometime realized the sign art was similar to that of graffiti, but the art had more authority and a louder voice and switched to sign art, working creating signs for people, businesses, etc. for this project, stephen powers decided to take suggestions and submissions of words of romance, thoughts of relationships, ideas of what love really is. (as expressed on aloveletterforyou.org) for this project, volunteers came on board to help paint these signs on the walls and rooftops of streets from 63rd to 45th in west philly. the project was completed yesterday during a snowstorm.

i also found a group called urban sketchers. this is an online group/blog with artists all over the world (hundreds) who do location drawings, sketching the world around them. the slogan of the organization is "see the world one sketch at a time". these are amazing sketches and paintings. check it out here. urban sketchers
