so i finally went into the photo lab to learn how to print in color. i anticipated my teacher coming with me into an advanced room and showing me what to do as he explained what he was doing. well, i was wrong. i walked into the crib and said hey chuck, could you show me how to print color? he asks if i have paper and negatives and i say yes. he sort of verbally explains what i need to do and gives me good starting values for yellow, magenta, and cyan then says okay go to it.
so i make a contact sheet and then put the paper back in the box and head through the terminal to find it is pitch black. i come out and ask a dude who is over by the wet room where i am supposed to put the print. he comes in with me and takes my hand and guides me through it. it came out blue and white with no definition of anything really. a girl near by realizing my puzzlement tells me its because i had the safelight on; apparently color paper can not even be handled under a safelight. so i turn off the safe like and the adventure begins in the pitch black room. it turns out i had one more print than i thought i did so because i was looking at the one prior to the one i had put in i was constantly off on my adjustments. i realized what i had done and ended the day with a print. i made two copies, one for myself (of course i have to keep my first print) and one for my friend laura who was with me in my little dark room learning right there with me through experimentation.

first color print!
i went back today after class to do a few more prints.
